The challenge

The company’s outdated Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) platform had become brittle due to years of patchwork updates, risking critical functionalities with minor changes. Nearing end of life, it was unsupported and incompatible with modern technologies, leading to stability and scalability issues that required an urgent upgrade.

Key challenges their current platform faced that needed to be addressed with the new solution:

  • Risk-laden updates Any development carried the material risk of breaking existing site features, making timely updates nearly impossible.
  • Limited functionality — Legacy system lacked critical features such as extensive lead tracking, modern SEO tools, and automated translation workflows, hampering global scalability.
  • Urgency and constraints — With a tight eight-to-nine-month timeline and a limited budget, the project required a prompt execution without compromising quality or scalability.
  • Global regulatory compliance — The solution needed to meet stringent regulatory requirements across 36 country-specific websites, each requiring unique local adaptations.

Faced with urgency, the company chose AEM Cloud due to a mandate from their parent company to transition to cloud-based technologies for licensing and support. AEM Cloud was ideal for its scalability, streamlined updates, and integration capabilities, aligning with the company’s competencies. They then sought a trusted partner to implement the solution and address their specific challenges.

The approach

The company selected to partner with MNP Digital to tackle its challenges through a robust and collaborative AEM implementation strategy. Working under a tight timeline and fixed budget, the teams adopted an agile project management methodology, ensuring rapid iterations and extremely close collaboration. Sprints were carefully planned, with requirements finalized within a week before the Sprint development began, allowing for flexibility and real-time problem solving. Regular end-of-sprint demos provided valuable opportunities to test solutions and refine components based on immediate feedback.

One of the major reasons that MNP Digital and the company had to remain lock-stepped during the development of the solution was that the project required significant customization, with approximately 80 percent of components tailored to meet the company’s unique needs. Key customizations included the integration of urchin tracking module (UTM) parameter, tracking with Salesforce to enhance campaign performance measurement, and the development of a scalable clinic finder tool, enabling real-time updates by the sales team. MNP Digital also implemented a direct connector between AEM and XTM Cloud, eliminating manual translation processes and significantly reducing time-to-market for localized content.
